Taking place from 24 August to 2 September in 2018, the Cairns Festival is a celebration of the vibrant tropical lifestyle of Far North Queensland and its creative spirit. From live music outdoors to art exhibitions, dance performances, markets and comedy events, the city will ignite with a multi-dimensional program over 10 action-packed days.
Highlights of the Cairns Festival include the Grand Parade on the opening weekend, which sees brightly decorated floats and colourful performers take to the Cairns Esplanade. Also not to miss is the Carnival on Collins, as well as seeing the historic Cairns City Library illuminated by 3D displays of stories from across the region. Events are held at various locations around the city and Cairns’ outer suburbs, with both ticketed and free activities taking place.
The Cairns Festival is the perfect excuse to head north and discover what makes this Far North Queensland hub such a traveller favourite. With perfect temperatures and very little rainfall, August and September are among the best times to visit the region.
When you’re not getting cultured at festival events, you can take to the skies along the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or while hot air ballooning over the Atherton Tablelands, then witness the rainforest, waterfalls and 320-metre steep ravines along the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Venture below the water’s surface to discover the staggering marine biodiversity of the Great Barrier Reef or experience the undeniable beauty of the rainforest while swimming at Crystal Cascades and Josephine Falls.
